Return to the Further in INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3 Trailer

Mar 18, 2015

In 2010, director James Wan surprised audiences with his chilling haunted house film, Insidious, which turned out to be one of the best horror films of the year. The film introduced us to a creepy world known as The Further that would let spirits latch on to those that were alive in the real world. It was a rather fascinating concept, and one Wan would decide to explore further in Insidious Chapter 2, which was met more critically from fans of the series. But audiences spoke with their wallets, and Focus Features has turned their sites to the series with Insidious Chapter 3, the brand new prequel that takes into The Further for the very first time.

Directed by series co-creator Leigh Whannell, and produced by James Wan, Insidious Chapter 3 focuses on paranormal investigator Elise (Lin Shaye) as she discovers The Further for the first time. A young father (Dermot Mulroney) and his daughter (Stefanie Scott) are being terrorized, and it’s up to Elise to discover why, and save the girl’s life.

The trailer is fun, but I’m almost afraid they may be giving away many of the jump scares in the film in the trailer. I don’t want the best parts to already be known going in, because it usually diminishes the experience. My other hope is that this story is worth telling, because prequels can be a tough sell that takes away some of the mystery of why we enjoy certain series so much. The second film, as much as I may have enjoyed it, wasn’t as well received because it seemed to try and put scares over story, and it didn’t quite for many. I’m really hoping, that Insidious Chapter 3 delivers, because this could continue to be a fun horror franchise, it just needs to be quality to continue.

Insidious Chapter 3, starring Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell, opens June 5, 2015.

The newest chapter in the terrifying horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.
