Richard E. Grant Joins ‘Wolverine 3’; Is He Playing Dr. Abraham Cornelius?

Apr 27, 2016

Richard E. Grant (Downton Abbey, Dracula, Withnail And I, Doctor Who) has joined the slowly growing cast of James Mangold’s Wolverine 3 in an unnamed role described as a mad scientist.

It’s extremely possibly Richard’s role could be Dr. Abraham Cornelius, who in the comics helped give Logan the Weapon X treatment and then eventually unleashed Russian super-villain Omega Red upon him.

He’ll join previously announced cast members Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Boyd Holbrook.

There are rumors circling that Laura Kinney aka X-23 is another role in the film.

We’ve also speculated that The Blackguard and Strikeforce X could also be involved. Cornelius could have easily stolen or sold the Weapon X files to a shadowy outfit like The Blackguard, who uses the information to create their own group of super-soldiers.

Bryan Singer looks to be rebooting the Weapon X origin in X-Men: Apocalypse and if it includes or excludes Cornelius remains to be seen, but the good doctor is just as important to his origin as William Stryker is. He could also be behind recreating the Weapon X Program with Strikeforce X or even attempt the cloning of Logan leading to Laura Kinney’s introduction. Either way it sounds like he’ll be playing a villain in the film.
