Last month Screen Junkies dropped a hot rumour that Robert Zemeckis was in talks with Warner Bros. to replace Rick Famuyiwa as the director of The Flash, part of the studio’s DC Extended Universe.
Now today it’s popped its head back up thanks to The Wrap, who are reporting the Back to the Future director is in talks with Warner Bros.
According to The Wrap’s report he is frontrunner, but Variety dropped more information. They claim that Zemeckis as well as Kingsman’s director Matthew Vaughn are the studio’s top two choices for The Flash.

Vaughn was recently rumoured to be inline to helm the Man of Steel sequel.
The Flash, which will star Ezra Miller as the scarlet speedster has had a heck of a time since it was announced. Phil Lord & Chris Miller the duo behind 21 Jump Street originally penned a treatment for the film, with an option to direct. But they dropped out after bagging the Han Solo: A Star Wars Story gig.
Warner then turned to first-time filmmaker Seth Grahame-Smith, but creative differences raises its head and Dope director Rick Famuyiwa was brought on-board, before departing due to creative differences.
Screen writer Joby Harold who’s writing credits include Awake and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is currently rewriting the script. I would assume if one of these two directors board the project it will once again start from scratch.
Let’s hope Warner Bros. bags one of them soon, as both are highly sought after. Question is who would you prefer? Both are equally fantastic.
Update: THR are reporting Spider-Man’s Sam Raimi is also in the mix to direct. Things are certainly hotting up for The Flash directors gig, and by the sounds of it we’ll know pretty soon who’s going helm the solo film.
