‘Robin Hood: Origins’ Production Start Date; Locations Include Budapest, Prague and Dubronik

Dec 19, 2016

Lionsgate has been planning a new cinematic version of Robin Hood with their own project Robin Hood: Origins with Safe House‘s Joby Harold penning the script for director Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders). We’ve learned some production details on the film.

A production update has revealed that Origins begins shooting on January 15th, 2017.

It will be filming on location in Budapest, Prague and Dubronik. The latter Croatian city was one of the locations used for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode 8.

The story will center on Robin Hood, a war-hardened crusader who joins a Moorish commander. He forms a band of outlaws, and they take matters into their own hands, leading a revolt against the corrupt English crown.

The new incarnation stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman) as Robin Hood, Jamie Foxx (Collateral) as Little John, Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlett, and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian.

Variety recently reported that Rogue One‘s Ben Mendelsohn is in negotiations to play the main villain the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Lionsgate/Summit has slated Robin: Origins for a release date of March 23rd, 2018.
