Harmonix, developers of Rock Band fame, has announced it’ll be attempting to port Rock Band 4 to the PC. Kind of… It has started a crowd funding venture to bring Rock Band 4 to PC, and it’ll be leasing the porting over to Sumo Digital.

I’m personally excited about this, as Rock Band has never been on PC before. Harmonix promises to incorporate Steam Workshop support to help expand the song library of the game, as well as have Keyboard and Mouse support for those of us that have dreamed of rocking the Keytar. Existing Rock Band instruments will be supported “as possible,” but of course it can also be bought via the crowd funding site Fig which is hosting the initiative. The goal for the project to become a reality is the tune of $1.5 million.

I’m excited that Harmonix is willing to take the leap and come to PC, but at the same time I feel a bit cynical. Typically, if a company plans to bring a title to PC it, you know, budgets accordingly. Certainly a company such as Harmonix has the ability to plan and think ahead. In my opinion, the campaign seems a bit cowardly with little risk on their end if it doesn’t work out. The PC can be a wonderful platform, it burns me to see it treated as an afterthought. If you’re going to develop for it, you should fully invest. Arkham Knight on PC is the gold standard of this concept. Hopefully crowdfunding for ports to PC won’t become a thing because it’s ridiculous.

Regardless of my cynicism, if you want to contribute to Harmonix’s endeavor to grace Rock Band on the PC, feel free to do so.  I’m not going to contribute, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t going to be on the lookout for plastic guitars at my local GoodWill.

Know to the interweb as Curdle_Sanders, Ben is a mild manner geek of nominal fame and fortune. Was raised by violet shooters on the PC like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, the media would think him to be a trained killer. He is actually a pretty nice guy that doesn't actually kill people at all although he still exclusively plays PC. In his spare time he dabbles in reading comics and completes course work for his Master's degree....which is the worst.
