‘Rogue One’ Passes $320M Globally Without China’s Help; Disney Hits Record Breaking $7 Billion

Dec 21, 2016

Rogue One was an interesting case even though it was apart of highly successful film franchise there were some naysayers worried that the film wouldn’t find an audiences. Even larger was the online community crying fowl when the film underwent some extensive and expensive reshoots.

It looks like we ended up with a terrific film and it’s already well underway to turn a rather large profit as well.

Box Office Mojo reports that the actual global box office numbers for the film’s opening weekend settled around $290 million and with another $33 million added to that from Monday’s earnings the film has just passed $323 million globally.

Most interesting of all is that key foreign markets like China didn’t even contribute to it’s big weekend as the film won’t be opening there until January.

This has setup Disney to break the record for total global box office grosses as the studio has earned a reported $7 billion in 2016, surpassing previous studio records as pointed out by The Tracking Board.

It remains to be seen what the film’s final grosses will be, but it’s safe to say it’ll turn a profit if it can manage another couple of strong weekend earnings among all these new holiday releases coming out soon.
