With less than a year away until the next Star Wars film it’s time some minor plot details emerge. This comes from the guys over at MakingStarWars.net who have been covering Star Wars news online since the late 90’s who seem to have some minor information regarding the plot for Gareth Edwards A Star Wars Story: Rogue One (Star Wars Anthology was dropped):
“Mads Mikkelsen (Galen appears to be his name in the film) is kind of the key to the film in a way. He is a scientist that took over the Geonosian Death Star project. He solved several of the flaws the Empire could not and is sort of a revered person in the Empire for his contributions. However, Mikkelsen’s character is a Robert Oppenheimer-type character. Oppenheimer helped design the atomic bomb only to say, “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” The guilt “Galen” feels for his contributions to the Empire become too much and he defects, attempting to make things right. In order to do this, he enlists the help of his only daughter (Felicity Jones)….”
Be interesting to see of it was Galen who intentionally left the hatch open on the first Death Star to allow Luke Skywalker to destroy it. It would certainly answer the age old question why that massive flaw even exists! They also go onto reveal that the first trailer is expected to be attached to Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. This obviously make sense given that both property’s are a Disney subsidiary.
