What’s interesting when Disney acquired the Lucasfilm rights is that most people focused on the rights to Star Wars and Indiana Jones, for the most part ignoring that Ron Howard’s Willow (written by George Lucas) was part of the deal as well.
While speaking with ComicBook, Solo: A Star Wars Story director Ron Howard revealed early talks with Lucasfilm about a Willow sequel that would mostly focus on Elora Danan, the redheaded baby girl in the first film.
Although, clarifying that Warwick Davis‘ Willow would be important as well.
“I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow,” Howard told ComicBook.com. “We wouldn’t call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.”
There’s been chatter of a Solo sequel but Howard as yet to sign-on or Lucasfilm to formally announce those plans.
The swords and scorcery fantasy film would fit nicely at Disney as the studio is set to make Sword In The Stone and Merlin Saga. Having a female centric fantasy film could give them a little more wiggle room to try something different with the genre.
I wouldn’t be terribly shocked if Ron’s daughter Bryce Dallas Howard (in the right age range) ends up with the Elora role, mainly because of her relationship to Kathy Kennedy’s husband Frank Marshall on the Jurassic World franchise.
However, Solo’s Emilia Clarke might make a good Elora as well and has a fantasy following from Game of Thrones which is wrapping up next year.
