Ronda Rousey Announced As Lead In MGM’s ‘Road House’ Remake

Sep 9, 2015

We’ve all been a bit curious about Ronda Rousey‘s (Expendables 3, Furious 7) future film career, even more so when she revealed interest in playing Captain Marvel. Many balked at this idea, even though both wrestler Dave Bautista and fellow UFC champ Gina Carano have landed Marvel roles in the past.

A new bit of credibility has been added to this budding action star, as MGM has announce via Variety, that Ronda will take the lead in their Road House remake. Stepping-in the role originally played by Patrick Swayze, and likely giving weight to the martial arts focused film. It’s a step closer for her to be taken a bit more serious in the world of film, and would a starring vehicle, not a supporting role.

Production is expected to begin in 2016, while a director and script have yet to be put together. Fast and Furious‘ Rob Cohen had been linked previously as director, but his name magically has disappeared from the project.

Road House isn’t a some cherished classic, it’s a cult 80’s brawl movie, worthy of a remake. I liked it fine when it first came out, but man, is this film dated beyond belief. When I first heard it was getting a remake, it was hard for me to come-up with a young actor with that ability, I’m glad they’ve decided on someone with an actual fight background.
