Yesterday a rumor dropped that Warner Brothers was circling around a slew of high profile characters to join Justice League Dark. The upcoming Vertigo/DC property that has technically never even been announced yet. Never-the-less rumors have swirled that production is suppose to start next year.
With this, the actor list for the project include such names like Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor for either John Constantine or Jason Blood. With Ron Pearlman as Swamp Thing and Monica Belluci as Madam Xanadu.
Now Heroic Hollywood has added to the story stating Star Wars: Rogue One and The Dark Knight Rises actor Ben Mendelsohn might be in the running for the lead villain. They go onto reveal the villain for the film may end up being Swamp Thing’s mad scientist creator Anton Arcane. The site adds however that Mendelsohn may only join once a director is attached. Actor Louis Jourdan played the character in the original 1982 Swamp Thing film.
Anton Arcane is a mad scientist obsessed with gaining immortality which has led him to create monstrous creatures known as “Un-Men” as well as other monstrous biogenetic experimentations involving the dead.
Originally, Guillermo del Toro was suppose to direct the film based on his script but passed to focus his attention onto Pacific Rim 2, which has been placed on hold by Legendary giving him an opening to potentially return. Fury Road‘s George Miller had recently been offered the director’s chair but has seemingly passed on it.
Watchmen‘s Alan Moore helped make Swamp Thing one of biggest horror comic book characters ever created, and since Warner Bros. is dying to adapt graphic novel material for their films, it would make a lot of sense to have Swamp Thing their centric character in this horror/occult side of the DCCU.
Not unlike having Batman becoming the bridge for a lot of the Justice League linked films.
