RUMOR: Brunhilde The Valkyrie To Be Introduced In ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Oct 13, 2015

A new report from Birth.Death.Movies claims that Hulk will indeed be apart of Thor: Ragnarok, going even further that it’s a buddy pic, alongside Thor.

Devin adds, that we’ll be seeing the introduction to the Valkyries, which will include Defender/Avenger member Brunhilde aka Valkyrie, that could lead to a possible standalone. There is also a bit of a hint that Amora The Enchantress might also be in the film, but that really isn’t clear in the wording.

We sort of made this leap yesterday, as a majority of Hulk’s adventures in Asgard and the other realms did actually have direct connections to Valkyrie, it’s possible Marvel could be exploring that Defenders side of the comics.

Valkyrie is the type of character that in fact could take over for a character like Thor, if the lineup of the Avengers is going to radically change as suggested by Kevin Feige. We know that new female Thor is winning people, and switching that from reluctant Natalie Portman, who plays Jane Foster, to a more enthused actresses playing Brunhilde and being worthy enough to pick up Mjolnir wouldn’t be a huge shock to me.

The character almost made the cut in The Dark World, only to have concept art be the remaining proof of the studio’s desire to include another female character into a struggling franchise. As much as we love Jaimie Alexander’s Sif, there’s a lot to complain about concerning the female roles connected to the movies. Including Amora, Hela, and Brunhilde would make up for some really lousy character choices in the past.

So who could end-up playing her?

That’s a big question and the site also claims they’ll be meeting with actresses for the role soon, possibly at the same time while casting Captain Marvel‘s Carol Danvers. So, we might be seeing a bit of overlap with casting reports for actresses for those two projects.

My choice would have to be Rogue Nation‘s Rebecca Ferguson, that’s if she doesn’t land Captain Marvel instead.

But let’s not forget that Jessica Chastain (The Martian, Interstellar, Crimson Peak, Zero Dark Thrity) has been campaigning for a costumed superhero role for a while now, and just happens to co-star with Thor actors Chris Hemsworth in The Huntsman and Tom Hiddleston in Crimson Peak.

So, she has working experience with the two leads, and has had previous meetings with Marvel. Chastain turned down roles in both Iron Man 3 and Ant-Man because they weren’t meaty enough for her, as she wants to suit-up. This could be the perfect Marvel role for her. Then again, she’d make an excellent Amora The Enchantress as well.

Thor: Ragnarok is set for release in November 2017.
