Several months ago it was once rumored that fan-favorite Chris Pine was up for the role of Hal Jordan in DC’s rebooted cinematic universe. The rumors have been around even before Ryan Reynolds suited up in 2011’s Green Lantern. Then we heard last month that Chris Pine was indeed in talks to join the DC Cinematic Universe not as Hal Jordan but simply Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor. While that still maybe the case a new rumor has appeared on Latino-Review that is stating that may all be a smoke screen because DC really does want Pine for Hal Jordan in a multi-picture deal:
“Pine was rumored to be a candidate for Hal Jordan way back when we realized Ryan Reynolds would never float in a green suit again, and the rumors of Pine circling Wonder Woman were actually Pine closing in on the role of Hal Jordan.”
That’s not all Collider goes onto add that the upcoming Green Lantern film in 2020 won’t just focus on one individual Lantern but have multiple Lanterns including John Stewart and possibly Guy Gardner. Which Latino-Review speculates that Tyreese Gibson could still land the role of John Stewart alongside Chris Pine.
Lastly, Collider adds that Green Lantern won’t be featured in the upcoming Justice League part 1 (which we have heard before) but will come in towards the end to war the league of an impending intergalactic threat:
“heard speculation that the way Justice League will go down is that Part One will feature our heroes dealing with an Earth-based threat, and then at the end, Green Lantern will fly in and alert them to an intergalactic menace (most likely Darkseid) for Part Two.”
Latino-Review does add that a lot can change between now and 2020 but that DC is planning on showcasing the entire Justice League cast on stage next month at San Diego Comic-Con much like how Marvel did with The Avengers.
