RUMOR: ‘Daredevil’ Series Two To Be Murdock Vs. Punisher?
We’ve been thrilled since Marvel Television officially announced that Jon Bernthal will be playing Frank Castle aka The Punisher in the second series of Daredevil. How he figures into the new series has been a bit less known, but a new rumor suggests that he and Murdock might indeed be at each other’s throat.
Nerdist is apparently hearing from a source that the second season is being referred to as “Daredevil vs. Punisher”, but they’re also being very cautious with their wording, so take with the usual grain of salt.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone as Castle’s introduction included his attempt to assassinate Spider-Man, along with a previous clashes with Daredevil and other Marvel heroes, due to misunderstandings and the fact his is willing to kill bad guys without hesitation.
The bigger question is will they start-out on the same page, or will they be full-on enemies?
Another thing will be how does Elektra and Bullseye factor into this whole point, will they create something new or borrow from existing stories by Frank Miller?
There’s been some chatter that Marvel could explore the recent romance between Frank and Elektra, which developed during their time on the Thunderbolts team.
An angle I thought was worth exploring was Castle eventually getting caught by the cops at some point in the series, and having Matt Murdock defending him at his trial, which was a more recent story in the comics. Throwing him into prison, and or escaping to setup shop in Los Angeles tackling criminals his own way without Daredevil interfering, could be a great way to give Frank his own spin-off series down the line. There’s been an assumption a Punisher series was one of the reasons for his inclusion into the MCU.
Daredevil series two will air sometime in 2016 on Netflix.
