It’s hard to ignore Star Wars fandom’s reaction to the Darth Vader action sequence from Rogue One and it seems like Lucasfilm heard fans they want more Vader in anthologies.
Our good friends over at ThatHashtagShow has word that Ron Howard’s Han Solo film will include Darth Vader. As they have confirmed that Vader actor Spencer Wilding dropped out of a convention because he was on the set of Howard’s Solo and this could mean a return to the Vader role.
Here’s what they have to say.
A couple months back, speculation began that Darth Vader might be making an appearance in the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff, when Rogue One‘s Vader actor—Spencer Wilding—dropped out of an appearance at a convention, reportedly because he was filming a role in “the newest film in the Star Wars universe.” Wilding’s involvement in any currently in-production Star Wars movies was never confirmed by Lucasfilm, and Wilding himself stated that claims of his involvement were false, so Vader’s presence in the Han Solo movie has remained nothing more than fan speculation. We can now, however, exclusively say that everyone’s favorite dark lord of the Sith will be dropping by Ron Howard’s upcoming feature.
A source close to the production has revealed to us that someone—presumably not Wilding, given his pretty definitive statement that he isn’t involved—was on the set of Howard’s Han Solo reshoots in Darth Vader’s armor as recently as two weeks ago. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much all we can confirm. We don’t know how big of a role Vader will play in Han Solo; it could be nothing more than a brief cameo in a single shot; it could be a full scene with dialogue; it could be multiple scenes. We don’t know. The only thing we can say with confidence is that Darth Vader is making some kind of appearance in the film.
You should take everything Star Wars related with a grain of salt, but THS has the type of casting sources that would be believable to have this type of information at their fingertips.
Vader, of course, would be extremely active in this era and to have him behind the scenes again wouldn’t be terribly shocking. There has been chatter that one of these Han Solo characters could be connected to Empire which could be the next Director Krennic (Doctor Aphra?).
To play devil’s advocate for a moment, we’ve seen Lucasfilm use large and small actors in multiple Star Wars roles. A clear example is Warwick Davis playing many different parts due to his stature. Warwick was recently confirmed for a role in Han Solo.
We’ll likely get our first look at Han Solo with a teaser attached to Thor: Ragarnok or Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Han Solo is set for release on May 25th, 2018.
