It’s starting to look like Fox, producers, and star Channing Tatum have finally started to contact directors to replace Rupert Wyatt (Rise of The Planet of The Apes), who recently exited their X-Men spin-off Gambit.
True that Channing Tatum has been courting Doug Liman to direct GAMBIT. We’ll see if he goes for it though…

Jeff from The Wrap, just tweeted out a possible director candidate being courted by Tatum, and this would be Doug Liman. Best known for starting the Bourne franchise, and helping keep Tom Cruise’s action career afloat with the underrated Edge of Tomorrow. Liman is busy these days, but if scheduling can workout for his post-production on Mena, I think he might be able to get involved.
Currently, Doug’s other projects include Splinter Cell with Tom Hardy, Luna with Tom Cruise, and possible sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, none have start dates for production.
Fox are eagerly pushing for production to begin soon on the film, which also has Léa Seydoux (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Spectre, Inglorious Basterds) co-starring as Gambit’s lover turned enemy Bella Donna. Other roles haven’t been named, but Bryan Cranston has been campaigning recently at the New York Comic-Con to play Mr. Sinister, a villain that does happen to have strong ties to Gambit’s origins.
If they don’t find a director soon, they will have to push the slated release of October 7th, 2016.
