RUMOR: James Franco and Ben Affleck In The Mix For ‘The Predator’?

Jul 15, 2016

The Predator begins shooting this fall in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at North Shore Studios and we really haven’t heard too much about casting rumors.

However, a new one has sparked on Meet The Movie Press as Jeff has named James Franco as a potential contender, along with naming a wish-list that previously included Ben Affleck, Christian Bale and Tom Hardy.

The Ben Affleck mention makes a lot of sense post-Batman, and would be a very smart move on the part of 20th Century Fox. We don’t have many current American action stars and Affleck is attempting to set himself up as one, and we’re fine with it.

I’m not totally in love with the idea of James Franco in the lead, but his Pineapple Express co-star Danny McBride is a lead in Alien: Covenant, so maybe Fox has a plan here.

I had issues with Adrien Brody’s casting in Predators, it would be nice if they actually hired someone with action film chops, is that asking too much?

Personally, after seeing Ben Affleck kick-ass as in Batman v Superman along with Tom Hardy’s roles in The Dark Knight Returns and Mad Max: Fury Road, I’d much rather see them tackle the lead role. They give off an action male lead vibe, James Franco, not so much.

Shane Black has already confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s Dutch wouldn’t be the main character of the film.

The Predator‘s release date is set for February 2018.
