RUMOR: Oscar-Winner Jordan Peele Pitches ‘Gargoyles’ Movie To Disney

Jun 13, 2018

Take the following with a grain of salt but a rumor from TheAnkler (spotted by SlashFilm) suggests that Get Out director Jordan Peele is itching to develop and direct an interesting Disney film.

Peele is coming off his Oscar win for Best Original Screenplay and could be heading back in 2019 as he’s a producer on Spike Lee’s Blackkklansman, which got rave reviews at Cannes. Making the film a strong contender for a Best Picture nomination even this early in the race.

Back to the rumor, they say Peele has seemingly pitched to Disney about making a Gargoyles live-action movie based on the solid 90s animated series which was one of their better shows of that era. However, they do step on their own reporting a bit suggesting that Disney is slightly less than enthusiastic about making it. Sounds more like a what-if tale but interesting none the less.

I’ve actually been talking about the potential of a Gargoyles film since 2014 and even predicted back in March of last year Disney would get around to making a movie in a couple of years. Nothing says this will come together but it sounds a lot more appealing than Disney remaking all of their hit animated features.

It’s about a group of Gargoyles spun hundreds of years into the future after being released from their permanent stone positions as they are able to come alive at night. The are also thrust into the world of modern New York City becoming crime fighters which did have it’s similarities to other shows from that era such as Fox’s Spider-Man toon.

If true, this could be a huge franchise starter for Jordan who had been once offered Warner Bros’ Akira trilogy and other large studio tentpoles. Jordan is set to make another horror thriller this summer and from there on the sky’s the limit.

Disney seems to be holding the cards here and we do hope they consider making it.
