RUMOR: Star-Lord’s Father in ‘Guardians of The Galaxy 2’ Is [SPOILER]

Nov 24, 2015

To say this article is a massive spoiler is an understatement, so steer clear if you don’t want to learn the potential identity of Peter Quill’s father in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. However, the inclusion of the character would likely be revealed eventually in casting announcements or even a trailer.

This is your last warning.

We’ve been scrambling to figure out who could be Peter’s father, after James Gunn confirmed it wouldn’t be J’Son like in the comics. It’s also not Thanos, Starfox, Adam Warlock, or others previously thought to be contenders if a new rumor is to be believed.

According to Umberto over at Heroic Hollywood, using four independent sources he’s apparently discovered the identity of Star-Lord’s father, who he claims is Kree superhero Mar-Vell aka the original Captain Marvel. Going on to include that it would explain the reasoning behind Marvel going after a hot prospect like Matthew McConaughey for the role, which would lead to multiple appearances in other films. Matthew was said to have turned down the role, so we have no idea who will end-up in the part.

Explaining that Mar-Vell would be needed to tell the origins of Carol Danvers transformation into a superhero, with her leading the Captain Marvel solo flick and he could play an important role in Avengers: Infinity War. Umberto also mentions that Mar-Vell’s origins could be slightly altered to make him an Inhuman, but still involved with the Kree Empire (who created the Inhumans). Explaining why the Nova Corps. weren’t able to accurately identify Quill’s DNA.

An alternative version of the character is the villainous Lord Mar-Vell, who could explain talk his father would be a villain in the film, tasked to kill Thanos’ love Death.

I still think it would be amazing if Kevin Bacon took the role, but that’s just me.
