RUMOR: ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Shooting In Scotland This Summer?

Jan 1, 2018

We recently were able to confirm that Star Wars: Episode IX (aka Black Diamond) was set to indeed begin filming in the UK this summer starting in June.

Well, we might have our first location for the film outside of Pinewood Studios as TheDailyRecord reports a rumor that a Star Wars production is heading to Northern Scotland (Argyll) in June.

While they’re suggesting this is for Rian Johnson’s new trilogy, they are simply incorrect due to the timing and we know Lucasfilm shoots one Star Wars film at a time.

The source happen to accurately reveal that Avengers: Infinity War would be shooting in Scotland as well, so it’s worth noting they’ve been right about local productions before. We just don’t see this being Rian’s film since it doesn’t sound like he even has a script ready to go and he will likely map out his entirely trilogy first. Knowing J.J. starts filming in June also makes this unlikely Rian’s film.

One of our hunches was that the Black Diamond title could be hinting to a return to Vader’s Castle on Mustafar (where Snoke’s gem in his ring comes from) Scotland has plenty of castles to choose from if they planned on using some for the production.

Episode IX is set for release on December 20th, 2019.
