X-23 aka Laura Kinney is now being rumored as a potential addition to the character lineup of James Mangold’s Wolverine 3 according to Superhero Hype.
This likely stems from a recent New Orleans casting-call from Central Casting for a female role which many suspect could be hinting at Laura Kinney. It’s possible they might already have an actress in mind for the role as it seems they’re looking for stand-ins/doubles in the casting-call.
Hinting that a white, Latina or Asian-looking actress could be already in the role.
Laura is the 23rd attempt to clone Wolverine, as it’s attempted to recreate the Weapon X Program, we’ve already suggested that military contractor The Black Guard could be behind resurrecting the Weapon X files and might involve Boyd Holbrook‘s unnamed villainous character, Donald Pierce perhaps?
Producer Simon Kinberg confirmed recently the setting of Wolverine 3 would be the future, adding clones and cyborgs into the mix would make sense for that kind of X-Men setting. I wouldn’t be terribly shocked if cyborg Omega Red, The Reavers and Strikeforce X are also involved in some sort of way.
There’s also some backing-up of this claim, as director James Mangold is said to have requested some artwork of X-23 a while back via Heroic Hollywood.
We had assumed the X-Force member could be a logical replacement for a retiring Hugh Jackman, as Deadpool director Tim Miller suggested he was interested in using her in the future.
I’m thinking Boyd could be playing Hellfire Club member Donald Pierce, who in the comics has an axe to grind with Wolverine creating the villainous group The Reavers. They included a group of cybernetic enhanced characters like Lady Deathstrike and Logan’s maimed combatants. This could be where someone like Omega Red comes into the picture, as the Cold-War mutant cyborg and hired-gun could play a large role in the film. Having Pierce apart of The Black Guard and cloning Wolverine wouldn’t be hard to imagine either.
It’s starting to sound like Wolverine 3 might look more like Deus Ex than Old Man Logan.
The code-name on the production is Juarez with locations including New Orleans and New Mexico, shooting is expected to begin soon.
Wolverine 3‘s release date has been slotted for March 3rd, 2017.
