Ryan Coogler Wanted To Add Kraven – Will He Show Up In ‘Black Panther 2’?

Feb 12, 2018

Black Panther director and co-writer Ryan Coogler talked to Yahoo!Movies and mentioned his desire during development to add Russian Spider-Man villain Sergei Kravinoff aka Kraven The Hunter, a big-game trophy hunter that has clashed with multiple Marvel heroes over the years (including T’Challa) and the half-brother of fellow villainDmitri Smerdyakov aka The Chameleon.

“Being a Marvel fan, you want to grab all the characters. You realize there are contractual things. You don’t have that character. There was a Christopher Priest run that was pretty heavy, there’s a big scene where Panther’s fighting Kraven, Kraven the Hunter.”

“I’ve always loved Kraven the Hunter in almost every iteration. So there was a moment – ‘Can I grab Kraven?’ – and they were ‘Nah, you don’t have Kraven.’ He was one where I thought ‘Oh, man.’ But I don’t even know if he would have worked in the movie we ended up with, this was the early days.”

There’s been chatter that Sony could introduce Kraven in Silver and Black (rumored as one of many Spidey rogues in it) with potential involvement in Spider-Man 2 shooting in the UK and Germany.

Once Sony establishes the character themselves there’s a good chance Marvel and Sony could figure out a deal to get Kraven in Black Panther 2, as the first installment is seemingly going to dominate the box office it would a huge opportunity for Sony to give Kraven a larger profile to general audiences before an eventual spinoff movie.

Luckily, Kraven is a complex villain that could be used in multiple franchises if Sony allowed it. Would you like to see Kraven in future Black Panther movies?
