Scales and Scoundrels #9 is a showcase of Galaad’s ability to illustrate a story without the use of words. Being able to narrate a story with just words is a show of respect between writer and artist. Sebastian and Galaad have that chemistry where they trust each other to create a story. It’s something that more comics need to incorporate so that artists can showcase their storyboarding abilities.

The issue as a whole was a strong entry into the Luvander journey. It was vastly different from the previous issue where she used violence and fear to solve her issues but in this one, she used critical thinking and compassion. Having no true villain really allowed her abilities to navigate each situation and utilize different skills, which makes Luvander such a great character.

I really enjoyed this issue. It was great to become immersed in the story and to not be distracted by dialog boxes. This story so far is the best issue in the second part of Luvander’s journey. This series has become a favorite of mine because of how intricate the writing and art is.
