Scarlett Johansson Is Universal’s Top Choice To Lead ‘The Creature From The Black Lagoon’

Apr 9, 2015

Universal Pictures has been quite vocal about putting together their Monsters Cinematic Universe which was officially launched with Dracula: Untold. They have a bevy of other projects in the works including remakes of The Mummy, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Frankenstein, and Van Helsing.

The Tracking Board has word that the studio is indeed moving forward with a reboot of The Creature From The Black Lagoon which has been in development for almost a decade. It’s without a director but if Legendary Pictures steps-in to work with Strike Entertainment I’m sure they could help find a solid director for it. Previous directors who tried to put a remake together include Gary Ross, John Carpenter, Breck Eisner, and Guillermo del Toro. Gary Ross is said to be still very much involved with this new version.

They also add that Universal is eying Scarlett Johansson for the lead human role of the film. Scarlett’s quote has gone up since her reported $10 million salary for Ghost In The Shell, which could be too pricey for the studio unless they’re willing to match it. Let’s just remember that Universal distributed Lucy in the United States which was a massive success for them, so I’m sure they understand the box office draw Johansson has developed over the years.
