Jul 23, 2016

Yesterday, Marvel announced that the Spirit of Vengeance Ghost Rider will be joining Season 4 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It was announced during the shows annual panel at San Diego Comic-Con. It was however also revealed that this incarnation of Ghost Rider will not be the classic version of the character. Where stuntman Johnny Blaze sells his soul to Mephisto in order to save his dying father. This version of Ghost Rider is based off a limited run cancelled version of the character Robbie Reyes. Reyes also drives a 1969 Dodge Charger as opposed to Johnny Blaze’s classic motorcycle. Marvel also announced that True Detective star Gabriel Luna has been cast as Robbie Reyes in the upcoming season.

Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb adds:

“Season 4 will unquestionably be the series’ biggest, most ambitious story yet, and it all begins with the introduction of one of our greatest legacy characters in Ghost Rider. When the Spirit of Vengeance rides into S.H.I.E.L.D., it’ll change everything.”

It’s unknown if this version of the character will be an Inhuman like the rest of the super powered beings in the show or Marvel will start to delve into the mystical and supernatural heroes in the Marvel universe. On the bright side this also means Marvel may introduce Johnny Blaze later on in a spin-off Netflix series or in the feature films. The Walking Dead Norman Reedus has been a fan-favorite to play an older Johnny Blaze. The actor has even gone on record to admitting he would be down to play the character if approached by the studio.
