There was an overflow of information from yesterday’s Marvel panel and we’re now playing catch-up with a couple of items. One of them includes the concept art and footage revealed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.
As pointed out by IGN, the presentation confirmed that villains Fenris Wolf (a giant killer wolf) and giant fire demon Surtur will show-up in the film.
It was assumed by the film’s title Surtur would being included, as he’s the one who actually brings about Ragnarok in Norse mythology once he’s lit his sword with a certain type of fire he can bring upon the end of the world, in the case of Thor all the nine realms.
Surtur is the Lord of Muspelheim and King of the Fire Giants. He is a demon of gigantic proportions and one of the greatest threats to Asgard. He wields the powerful Twilight Sword.
Fenris Wolf is actually mostly aligned with Cate Blanchett’s Hela, as they both are the children of Loki. However, it’s very unlikely we’ll see that plot point in the film.
Fenris the Wolf, Demon spawn of Loki, destined on the day of Ragnarok to break his bonds and to stand at the side of his father Loki, as they ushered in the Twilight of the Gods.
It’s just stunning the level of mythology they’re attempting to include in the film as Hela, Skurge, Fenris Wolf, Loki, Surtur and Grandmaster pretty much tips the scales against Thor, even with the help of Hulk.
Thor: Ragnarok is currently in production in Australia.
There’s no word who could be playing the two, as it’s unknown if Fenris will be able to speak or not.
It’s interesting how the two Thor villains bring-up memories of The Neverending Story‘s Gmork and Legend‘s Darkness, since the new logo suggests an 80’s retro take.
