SDCC17: Kevin Feige Confirms Kree-Skrull War Being Used For ‘Captain Marvel’
It was announced yesterday that alien baddies The Skrulls will finally make their MCU debut in Brie Larson‘s Captain Marvel. However, at the presentation, Kevin didn’t exactly clear up if the Kree Empire would be involved, as they have a very close connection to Carol’s origin.
Previous concept artwork shown to press months back teased a Kree Sentry and Omega Underground pointed out last night that Danvers is fighting Kree Soldiers in one of the concept art images shown at Comic-Con. We had assumed that the Kree would have a giant presence in the film due to this.
Well, Kevin Feige has ended the speculation and has confirmed to IGN that the Kree-Skrull War is being introduced/used for Captain Marvel.
“And we’ve never seen the Skrulls, how come? Well we really wanted, we thought it would be fun to, there’s an entire section of our comics that deals with the Kree-Skrull War and we haven’t tapped into that at all. And we thought that would be an amazing huge portion of mythology to belong to Captain Marvel.”
It’s also been confirmed that the film takes place in the 1990s, this could mean a return of Guardians of Galaxy’s Ronan The Accuser played by Lee Pace. Ronan has tangled with the original Captain Marvel plenty of times, as it’s assumed that Carol is getting all of Mar-Vell’s comic book canon this makes a lot of sense as it includes the Kree-Skrull War stuff.
Production is expected to begin on January 8th until May of next year, with its release date set for March 8th, 2019.
