SHAZAM! Could Be Coming Sooner Than Expected; James Wan Directing?

Feb 24, 2015

While on the Oscar red carpet MTV was able to get a small update concerning Shazam from Dwayne Johnson who will play villain Black Adam in the film. He reveals that the movie might get made sooner than expected as the script is coming in.

“You know, it may happen a little earlier than what has been predicted. The script is coming in. It’s great. The support from the studio has been great. It’s just a great opportunity. Especially with Black Adam, where you can take a guy who starts off as a bad guy, turns into an anti-hero. We can make him vicious, a little bit of winking charm.”

Could this mean they already have a director lined-up?

New Line Cinema President Toby Emmerich in a press release for The Conjuring 2 revealed James Wan (Saw, Furious 7, Insidious, The Conjuring) having a deal that included making an unnamed DC Comics film at the studio. Justin Lin has made it known his intentions to make the next couple Fast and Furious films.

James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He’s the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one.

At this point Shazam is the only New Line/WB superhero film that was announced by Warner Bros.

It’s possible they could move on Deathstroke or Team 7 movies to New Line that David Goyer was developing for them. The studio is known for darker content and could allow Warner Bros. to make more gritty R-rated superhero films, remember it’s the studio that gave us Blade.
