You might remember a while back that Activision was forming a studio to develop and release films and television shows based on the Call of Duty video game franchise, not unlike Ubisoft.

Well, Variety has word that Italian director Stefano Sollima is in negotiations to direct the first Call of Duty movie. He recently completed Sicario 2: Soldado filling in for Denis Villeneuve, who was busy with Blade Runner 2049.

There’s currently no information other than that as a screenwriter and distributor have yet to be found.

Stefano is an excellent choice and shows the seriousness of getting a gritty Call of Duty film made, rather than slapping together something quickly with inexperienced people. This could also be suggesting the film might end up R-rated.
