While speaking to Sigourney Weaver, Coming Soon was finally able to get her to comment on Neill Blomkamp developing an Alien 5 movie pitch. Weaver sounds extremely open to the idea and even more to the prospect of Blomkamp working on the film.
“He kept sending me these brilliant designs and ideas and everything. We’ll see what happens,”
“It’s not that so much is that we just left it at such a creepy place, sort of stranded above Earth. I was quite happy to move onto other things and I didn’t want to go to Earth. I didn’t want to manufacture a sequel and I felt like we were starting to do that. If something happens from this, it would be very organic and very original, and because of that, it would make me want to do it. If it was someone as talented as Neill, I’d certainly listen.”
All positive stuff and it doesn’t hurt the two have already worked together not to mention Fox being said to be extremely interested in making the film. I do think Blomkamp doesn’t want this news to overshadow the release of Chappie which is likely why he’s downplaying his desire to participate.
We also just posted that Neill is the one on the fence about making the film and the director says Fox would make the film “tomorrow” if they could. He’ll be deciding soon if he’ll indeed make the film.
I assume that we’ll likely hear either way very soon, if not after the opening weekend of Chappie.
