Simon McQuoid Attached To Direct WB’s Upcoming ‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot

Nov 19, 2016

Video game movies have been a very hard code to crack. None of them seem to live up to the hype of the video game. Even, this year we were given Warcraft which was mediocre at best; failing miserably at the domestic box office. Now while next month will bring us some hope in Assassins Creed and Uncharted is gearing up to start filming. Mortal Kombat has been in development hell since the last film in the late 90’s. However, a few years ago Machinima along with Warner Brothers brought us an updated web series base don the classic fighting video game. Mortal Kombat Legacy was met with high praise with creator Kevin Tancharoen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) even being approached to direct the film. He eventually left the film project and Aquaman director James Wan boarded as the producer.

Now Variety has learned that up and coming director Simon McQuoid has signed on to direct the upcoming reboot.. McQuoid hasn’t directed any feature films but has had a hand in the Halo franchise. Also, most recently Mortal Kombat X has been the highest selling Mortal Kombat game to date. So Warner Brothers is certainly looking to capitalize on the brand.
