Today, Variety revealed that Skyfall and No Country For Old Men star and Oscar winner Javier Bardem is being eyed to star as Frankenstein in Universal’s ever growing Classic Monster Universe. He could join the universe which already includes Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe (Dr. Jekyll) in The Mummy reboot.
However, they don’t mention if he’ll be playing Doctor Frankenstein or the unnamed monster.
Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie are said to be in talks to star in The Invisible Man and The Bride of Frankenstein respectively. Other monsters in this universe include The Wolfman (Dwayne Johnson is rumored), Creature From the Black Lagoon (Scarlett Johnasson is wanted for the female lead), and Van Helsing.
It’s more than possible that Bardem’s role would also translate into part in Bride of Frankenstein.
This wouldn’t be the first monster pic for Bardem, as the actor had been attached to co-star with former Wolfman actor Beneico del Toro in Guillermo del Toro’s Dracula remake, which never did come together. Speaking of Dracula, screenwriter Jon Spahits, who penned The Mummy and the upcoming Van Helsing remakes, liked our casting suggestion of Mads Mikkelsen to replace Luke Evans as the Count.
honestly, who would complain if Universal hired Mads Mikkelsen as the new DRACULA? pic.twitter.com/JYwetKAHEy

Just like the Marvel universe each monster will have a solo film before joining together in a ‘team-up assemble’ film. The site goes onto reveal that Frankenstein will first appear in another classic monsters film before being rebooted in his own film.
