‘Spawn’ Reboot Expected To Shoot In Toronto

Jul 13, 2018

It was recently announced that Jeremy Renner would take on the role of Detective “Twitch” Williams alongside Jamie Foxx‘s Al Simmons in Todd McFarlane’s Spawn reboot at Blumhouse.

It’s now looking like Toronto will indeed be one of the filming locations they’ll be using as we’ve recently learned.

First-time Canadian director Todd McFarlane is no stranger to the city, so it does make sense considering the facilities available could help a horror film on a budget.

When production is exactly set to start is a little unclear at the moment as we’ve heard both August and possible October start months for the comic book horror film. While production dates have yet to be established.

Previously, we stated New York City was being eyed and that could still end be used for exteriors and possibly second unit shots. As the Spawn series does take place in the back alleys of NYC.

We are assuming Toronto will end up a stage location as it has been for films like The Shape of Water, RoboCop, Suicide Squad, Pacific Rim, Shazam!, and Scott Pilgrim.

The city has a long-standing connection with the horror genre as many horror films have shot in Toronto including IT 1-2, Black Christmas, Crimson Peak, Blade II, Scanners, Freddy vs Jason, Bride of Chucky, Mimic, Ginger Snaps, Resident Evil, Cube, American Psycho, and Saw sequels.

Blumhouse has yet to give Spawn a release date but we suspect it will land a spot sometime in 2019 or possibly early 2020.
