The following casting speculation concerning Aramis Knight’s role is just that speculation, but this could be considered spoilers if it turns out we’re right, proceed with caution.
Into The Badlands actor Aramis Knight (Ender’s Game, Dark Knight Rises, Dexter) is listed as a cast member in James Gunn’s Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2, playing “boy on Star-Lord’s ship”.
The 17 year old South Asian actor might possibly be more than just a background performer.
The character title gives the impression he’ll be sharing screen time with Pratt’s Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians team at some point in the film.
His martial arts series Into The Badlands on AMC also happens to be shot in Atlanta, where they filmed the Guardians sequel.
There’s a real possibility that Knight could be playing a known Marvel character and we have two ideas of what cosmic role it might be.
This could also be a chance for Marvel to finally give fans and audiences our first MCU superhero played by a South Asian actor, as Knight is of Indian and Pakistani descent.
If you’re unfamiliar with Knight’s series on AMC, you might remember his scene in The Dark Knight Returns.
One potential character could be Samuel Alexander, the younger/modern version of the cosmic superhero Nova. The character is how most might identify as Nova, as he’s been a supporting character on the cartoon series Ultimate Spider-Man.
Knight is about the right age and also happens to look very similar to Alexander in certain photos.
Then again, Marvel has just recently reintroduced Richard Rider (the original Nova) back into the comics.
It helps that the Nova Corps. have been established with the last film and we know characters like Nova Prime will be returning, so they’ll have a presence in the sequel.
Sly Stallone‘s character hasn’t been officially revealed by either Marvel or James Gunn.
Footage of his character was shown at San Diego Comic-Con, which some had mentioned was spotted in a Nova Corpsman uniform.
Rumors from Heroic Hollywood had been pointing towards him playing a Ravager/Bounty Hunter in the film as well.
If they did go the Nova route, I could see Sly playing either Richard Rider or even Sam’s father Jesse Alexander.
Although, the bounty hunter aspect sounds fitting (think Expendables) if he’s hired to retrieve Knight’s character.
The only problem with Alexander, Gunn has declared in the past that he wanted Peter Quill to be the only human character with a connection to Earth.
Another more likely character is a younger take on Guardians member Adam Warlock.
Elizabeth Debicki’s role as Ayesha already hints to the Warlock’s possible involvement/introduction, as she is the female counterpart to Adam having similar origins.
The golden High Priestess and the leader of the Sovereign people, who enlists help of the Guardians.
It remains to be seen how The Sovereign will factor into the film, I assume they’ll be stand-ins for The Enclave, which are likely attached to the Fantastic Four movie rights at Fox.
I wouldn’t be terribly shocked if The Sovereign turn out to be a group of Eternals, the same powerful cosmic race that Thanos belongs to. It’s also the name of the cosmic superhero team created by Jack Kirby and the main hero of the group named Ikaris, just happens to use the alias Sovereign.
Adam turning out to be a Sovereign wouldn’t be hard to imagine.
Warlock’s soul gem could easily be the McGuffin of the film, helping to further setup the infinity gauntlet.
SOUL GEM: Allows the user to steal, control, manipulate, and alter souls, living or dead, and is the gateway to an idyllic pocket universe that is much like heaven. It also has the ability to steal the powers and abilities of others. The Soul Gem is sentient and has a hunger for souls. It is often considered to be the most dangerous and corrupt of all the gems. Mastery of the gem would allow the user to control all life in the universe.
Adam is an important character in the Infinity War/Infinity Gauntlet comics, so having his introduction in Guardians 2 makes sense considering his connection to Thanos and that it’s been confirmed Guardians will be apart of the Avengers: Infinity War lineup.
James Gunn had established Adam’s cocoon stage and at the end of Guardians it was shown to be broken after the explosion at the Collector’s Vault.
However, Gunn has downplayed the cocoon’s inclusion in the film, but we do know it’s directly connected to Adam via the comics.
Considering that Adam has never been introduced on screen before, it allows Marvel and Gunn to do whatever they want with the character.
Skewing his age a little younger might be good as there really haven’t been any young characters in the cosmic side of the Marvel cinematic universe, and could further juxtapose Adam from Quill. It also might be fun to see another young character play-off Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Infinity War.
It’s extremely possible Adam could be just hanging out in Knowhere, just like Howard The Duck after being freed from the Collector’s Vault. Perhaps, getting into trouble or pursued leading him to become a stowaway on Star-Lord’s ship.
During around the time of the film’s shoot Aramis grew out his hair and added some lighter highlights to his longer hair style. Adam Warlock is known for his signature blonde shaggy 70’s hair style.
We also suspect that Knight’s martial arts background would likely be apart of his role.
Just a reminder this is our own speculation at the moment and it’s possible the role could be something else entirely. We’ll likely know a lot more about Knight’s role and the plot of the film when the first trailer is released.
It’s assumed that the first trailer be attached to the release of Doctor Strange in November.
Some smaller roles have seemingly been revealed as well.
Models Nea Dune and Cheyanna Lavon Zubas are listed as playing robots in the film.
Bo Yokely (Baywatch) and Hilty Bowen are likely playing fellow Sovereign in the film.
Bowen is listed as Sovereign pilot and Bo as fighter pilot on IMDB.
Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5th, 2017.
