The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the House of Cards star Joel Kinnaman ahead of the new season debut. Talk shifted to last years critically panned but commercially successful Suicide Squad sequel. The actor reveals that he actually wished director David Ayer would return for the sequel but the director has moved onto Gotham City Sirens:

Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.

The actor goes on to reveal he knows the script is being written currently by Adam Cozad and thinks filming could begin sometime in 2018:

As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.

At first director Mel Gibson spoke with the studio about taking over the reigns for the sequel. But as far as we know nothing has come from that. King Arthur and Sherlock Holmes director Guy Richie has expressed intreset in directing the sequel as well. However, after King Arthur bombed at the box office it’s unknown if WB would trust Richie with this kind of tentploe project.
