Star Wars Celebration is a great fan event, and even more interesting for the die-hards curious about what thing from the novels or cartoons will make it into the films.
We’ve recently learned that a character who originally debuted in Star Wars: Clone Wars will be played by Forest Whitaker in Rogue One, so there’s a chance other canonical animated characters could make the jump into the movies as well.
One of them that I feel like most fans would like to see is the Chiss villain and Imperial Grand Admiral, Thrawn aka Mitth’raw’nuruodo. There had been rumors for months the villain would make his debut in season three of Star Wars: Rebels and at Celebration they made it official.
Thrawn is now finally a part of Star Wars canon, being a huge villain within the Star Wars novels in the non-canonical “legends universe”. Rebels is official canon, meaning that if Lucasfilm or filmmakers wanted to they could include him in future films.
Personally, we’d more than likely see Thrawn in the Anthology films given that and there had already been speculation that he was being played by either Mads Mikkelsen or Ben Mendelsohn in Rogue One, which isn’t the case. A couple of possible future options could be Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo film, the Boba Fett standalone film or even the Obi-Wan spinoff with Ewan McGregor reprising the role.
