Stryker Returns For ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’; Weapon X Program Rebooted?

Jul 20, 2015

Bryan Singer has announced the return of Aussie actor Josh Helman to the role of William H. Stryker in X-Men: Apocalypse. In the Instagram post, Josh is seen with co-star Rose Byrne surrounded by children. I suspect that Helmen is either assisting Moira or there to check-up on his mutant son Jason, who he sends to the Xavier School as revealed in X-Men 2. It was revealed that this “new world” has embraced mutants since the events of Days of Future Past. It’s possible that Stryker has turned a new leaf, or is trying to recruit the X-Men to help fight this larger mutant threat.

The character last seen in Days of Future Past, also puts together the Weapon X Program which includes Wolverine, Deadpool, Ajax, and Sabertooth. There’s been hints from Singer, writer-producer Simon Kinberg, and even Hugh Jackman about rebooting the Weapon X Program, to give fans a proper take on that lore after Origins goofed it up.

We already know that Deadpool‘s time in the group will be retconned in the solo film, it’s possible they’ll end-up including it in Apocalypse as well, perhaps, leading to Hugh Jackman’s rumored cameo in either film. This could be an excellent primer for the Wolverine 3, and help introduce/tease characters like Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, or even Sabertooth. Another theory is that X-Force could be a rebooted version of the Weapon X Program, but that seems a bit more far-fetched.

X-Men: Apocalypse is due-out May 2016.
