Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Batman: Hush #1 hits on all the right notes. Not a single miss in this one-off. A must-read for anyone who liked Batman: Hush. (Is there anyone who didn’t like Batman: Hush? The comic, not the animated movie — the latter definitely could’ve been better.)
As one might expect, Phillip Kennedy Johnson pays homage to the original story in a few ways. He also managed to pull things from other DC involving Gotham and the characters linked to the city and tinker with them all.
Much like the Dark Knight origin stories from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s original Metal run, Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Batman: Hush #1 is a huge “what if” story. But Batman isn’t the only one who’s a little different in this story.
There’s one loose thread from DC’s past in particular that Johnson pulls on that will stick with readers.
On top of the wild ride of a story, Johnson was paired with Dexter Soy for the one-off. (Sergio Davila and Matt Santorelli handled the last three pages of Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Batman: Hush #1.)
If you like Soy’s cover, things only get better when you start reading. Especially if you’re a Red Hood fan — he teased Jason Todd was in the book ahead of the issue’s release.
It doesn’t appear Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Batman: Hush #1 will have any sort of impact on Dark Nights Death Metal. Just a story for DC fans to take in that was spawned from a wild event.
And there’s at least one more Tales from the Dark Multiverse one-off coming.
