Today, Variety announced that director Nicole Kassell has been tapped to direct the pilot of Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen for HBO. Kassell worked with Lindelof originally on his other show The Leftovers and is looking to re-team with the showrunner. She has also directed other shows like Better Call Saul and The American’s. She also made her feature film debut with 2004’s The Woodsman starring Kevin Bacon.
No cast has been announced for the upcoming project however Patrick Wilson (Aquaman, The Conjuring) has expressed interest in returning to play Nite Owl when talking to Yahoo! Movies UK. A role he originally played in Zack Snyder’s adaption of the comic book back in 2009.
“It was such a joy shooting that movie, I wanted there to be more of them. I’ve wanted to play Dan again. I certainly think we’re all more age appropriate now! [However] There’s never been one conversation. I’m sure they want to stay as far away from us as possible but I love Damon Lindelof I’m so excited to see what they will do. I’d love to play [Dan] now but no there’s been no talk, I’m just a fan like you are.”
It’s extremely unlikely any of the original cast will return for the upcoming series.
Watchmen will debut exclusively on HBO
