‘The Leftovers’ Showrunner Damon Lindeolf Developing a ‘Watchmen’ TV Series at HBO

Jun 21, 2017

Today, Variety revealed that LOST and The Leftovers showrunner Damon Lindeolf will be developing DC Comics acclaimed comic book series Watchmen for HBO. This would be the cable network’s second attempt at developing a series after Zack Snyder tried back in 2015.

This version however will start from scratch; completely independent from Zack Snyder’s vision. Snyder also directed the 2009 film Watchmen which is considered one of the greatest page-to-screen adaptations of any modern comic book movie. With his directors cut being considered the ultimate version compared to the theatrical cut.

Set in a universe in which the appearance of costumed heroes in the mid-20th Century had altered the course of history — leading to U.S. victory in Vietnam and a Nixon presidency that stretched into the mid-1980s — “Watchmen” followed a group of crimefighters investigating the murder of one of their own. In the process, those characters — including Doctor Manhattan, Nite Owl, Silk Spectre, and Rorschach — uncover a conspiracy with enormous implications.

HBO declined to comment on the project…
