The Raid’s Gareth Evans Reportedly Passed On Directing Fox’s ‘Gambit’
If you haven’t been following the development of Fox’s X-Men spinoff Gambit, the film starring Channing Tatum with a story written by legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont. They’ve hired Robocop‘s Joshua Zetumer to pen the screenplay. Tatum is also acting the as one of the project’s producers and has been said to be meeting with high-profiled directors, some names included Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) and Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) but both passed.
Meet The Movie Press are mentioning that a new crop of directors have passed on the project as well, which include JC Chandor (A Most Violent Year, Margin Call, Deepwater Horizon), Gareth Evans (The Raid 1-2), and others. Rising names in the directing realm who could really breakout in Hollywood with the right studio project.

Evans has been vocal in interviews that he’d be open to doing Marvel’s Iron Fist if he was able to make it his way, and with the level of violence he’s known for. He rocked a Captain America tee in a magazine spread, so I’m sure he’s team Marvel, but maybe Gambit doesn’t have enough action for him?
Gambit is coming out next November which means it’s likely looking to start production this fall.
