‘The Walking Dead’ Star Jon Bernthal Joins ‘Daredevil’ as ‘The Punisher’

The Punisher has been a very hot topic since Marvel and Netflix teamed-up for a gritty set of shows based on heroes from Hells Kitchen which included Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Many wondered if Daredevil’s most note worthy ally and at time advisory Frank Castle will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Today, Marvel officially announced that Fury and The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal has officially joined the Marvel Universe as The Punisher himself!

Marvel TV president Jeph Loeb adds:

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

Many wanted Joe Manganiello or even bring back Thomas Jane to reprise the role but obviously Marvel wanted a fresh take on Frank Castle. Hopefully this means the character will get his own Netflix origin story down the line and play a part in The Defenders team-up mini series.
