Tim Miller To Direct Cyberpunk Flick ‘Neuromancer’ For Fox

Aug 9, 2017

Deadline has learned that director Tim Miller has landed his second big science fiction project post-Deadpool with 20th Century Fox. He’ll direct an adaptation of William Gibson‘s 1984 cyberpunk novel Neuromancer.

X-Men producer Simon Kinberg will be a producer on the film along with Gibson.

Case was one of the best console cowboys until he stole from one of his employers, who in turn damaged his nervous system so that he cannot access cyberspace anymore. Broke and destroying himself, Case is contacted by Molly, a heavily modified razorgirl, to work for a shadowy colonel who needs a cyberspace cowboy for a secret mission. The employer fixes Case’s damaged brain, but implants a slow dissolving poison to make sure the cyberspace wiz does his bidding, in attempting to abduct a perverse psychopath who is able to create holograms with the force of his mind.

The novel and Gibson’s work would, of course, influenced similar cyberpunk projects like Ghost In The Shell and The Matrix. Gibson would take a crack at screenwriting when he wrote the cyberpunk action film Johnny Mnemonic which starred Keanu Reeves.

Cube director Vincenzo Natali (Westworld, American Gods, Hannibal) had previously attempted his own feature film adaptation of Neuromancer only for it fall apart.

Miller also has an adaptation of the Daniel Suarez sci-fi novel Influx setup at Fox as well.

The story follows a character named Jon Grady who comes up with an astounding invention: a device that can reflect gravity. But instead of receiving worldwide acclaim for his innovation, the lab is locked down by a shadowy organization, the Bureau of Technology Control, which aims to shut down technological advances from reaching the public.

However, he’ll first make his Terminator reboot with producer James Cameron and that is expected to shoot in the spring of next year.

Neuromancer will now seek screenwriters to tackle its script.
