Tim Miller Wants To Include CABLE In ‘Deadpool’ Sequel and So Does Fox

Aug 9, 2015

Birth.Movies.Death and Empire have reports concerning Fox already talking about putting together a sequel to Deadpool. The trailer has wowed fans and almost overshadowed X-Men Apocalypse at Comic-Con, giving Fox a bit more confidence about moving forward with more movies.

Devin over at BDM says that Fox is indeed moving forward with a sequel, and the studio wants to see if the sequel is the film they will bring Cable into the X-Men Universe. This source is apparently coming from someone within the 20th Century Fox organization, which could mean the wheels are already in motion.

Empire actually spoke to director Tim Miller, who went on record by stating he’s indeed interested in including Cable in the sequel.

“There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.”

We’ve been hearing for years from Rob Liefield and producers like Lauren Shuler Donner, that Cable has been brought-up multiple times as a future priority for the X-Men films. Considering how fast Miller is delivering Deadpool to Fox, with a very limited turn-around-time in post, I’m sure the studio is foaming from the mouth with the idea he could deliver a sequel just as fast.

Introducing Cable in a anticipated film like Deadpool 2, then giving him the leader role in New Mutants or X-Force would make sense for both the character, along with a way to amp-up these spin-offs before their production. I’ve been championing both Deadpool and Cable for years, and have been hearing rumblings myself that Cable is coming very soon. There’s also been some assumption that Deadpool could fill the void which will be left by Hugh Jackman’s retirement of Wolverine, allowing characters like Gambit and Cable to also take that crossover mantle.
