Tom Cruise Pitches ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Sequel and Teases Emily Blunt’s Return

Jul 30, 2015

While speaking with MTV, Tom Cruise revealed meeting with writer Christopher McQuarrie and director Doug Liman, about a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow. The book/manga adaptation is getting a written sequel to All You Need Is Kill, but it remains to be seen if that will influence the next cinematic installment.

“I pitched it to [“Rogue Nation” director and “Edge of Tomorrow” screenwriter Christopher] McQuarrie and [“Edge of Tomorrow” director] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it,”

He also mentioned the possibility of Emily Blunt’s return for the sequel, who easily was the highlight of the first film.

“Gotta get Emily. I was like Emily, please. She was like, ’give me another year, please.’”

The film wasn’t a huge box office success, but managed to appease critics and action/sci-fi genre lovers. Not on the same level as George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, but the demand is also there for another movie. It wouldn’t be hard to see a larger audience supporting a sequel, if there’s a bit more of a promotion behind it. Being one of the first American manga adaptations, it was a solid entry into a budding sub-genre. I’m curious to see if Ghost In The Shell will take cues, while having a larger awareness due to video games, animated movies/TV series, and manga. Shell will likely have less of an uphill battle to get asses in seats.

Are you excited for the possibility of Warner Bros. making a sequel?
