Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun 2’ Filming Over The Summer – Eyeing July Start

Mar 3, 2018

It was recently revealed by Quentin Tarantino that Brad Pitt has landed the secondary male lead role in his upcoming film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Tom Cruise had also been in the mix for that same part. It looks like Tom was too busy with Top Gun 2 aka Top Gun: Maverick. This could explain why he didn’t land the role in the Tarantino film as the two films will be shooting over the summer.

Omega Underground has learned that Paramount/Skydance is looking to get things rolling by July.

Top Gun 2 will explore Maverick’s role in a modern military and has Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Only The Brave) will be reuniting with Cruise on the sequel.

Casting and crew hirings will be the next step.

On the Edge of Tomorrow 2 front, Emily Blunt will be filming Disney’s Jungle Cruise opposite Dwayne Johnson from May to August. Seemingly giving the impression director Doug Liman wasn’t ready to go allowing both of the actors to shoot other films over the summer. However, we suspect Edge of Tomorrow 2 will be the next project for Cruise and Blunt, either shooting by the end of 2018 (Jungle Cruise ends in August and Top Gun 2 ends by November/December) or sometime in 2019.

Paramount has already given Top Gun 2 the release date of July 12th, 2019.
