For the month of October, we are highlighting the top villains in gaming. Andrew, Jeff, and Jeremie have teamed up to take all those guys you love to hate, and rank them. We will reveal them to you in a countdown, starting with #31 and ending with #1 on Halloween. Check us out each day of the month to see where your favorite villains rank!
First Appearance: Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Most Notable Appearance: Wolfenstein: The New Order
Wilhelm “Deathshead” Strasse is a crazy madman who’s a high ranking officer that serves the Third Reich by creating war machines and weapons. While he was born in 1860 he wasn’t on the radar of Captain B.J. Blazkowicz until the age of 83, when he made his first appearance in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. In that game he was encountered early in the story. After he was defeated he went into hiding, I believe, to plot his revenge against his nemesis.
In my opinion one of the more notable appearances Deathshead made was in the latest installment of the Wolfenstein franchise, Wolfenstein: The New Order. Fed up with the number of defeats he has experienced, he attempts to end the life of Blazkowicz. Hell bent on this vendetta he relies on the machines he’s created to achieve this goal. His sadistic nature fuels his hate towards B.J., but it also blinds him to the point that he underestimates his enemy. So sure that he will be victorious, Strasse goes against his usual cowardly nature and makes a final stand. Perhaps he thought that at the age of 100 he only had one more chance at this. Maybe he didn’t have anymore tricks up his sleeve. Either way his reign as a video game villain has ended (unless he borrowed a play from Emperor Palpatine’s playbook and cloned himself!).
