Calaca

#25: Calaca

First Appearance: Guacamelee

Most Notable Appearance: Guacamelee

Carlos Calaca was once a luchador in Mexico. A fearsome foe inside the wrestling arena, he bested his opponents time and again. Eventually Carlos faces another luchador that he believes to be more than he can handle. Worried that he may lose this match a deal is made with the Devil. This deal, like most deals with the Devil, backfires on Calaca. He wins the match but is tricked by the ultimate deceiver and banished to Hades. These series of events leads to Calaca exacting revenge on the Devil by turning him into a chicken! A chicken? Unfortunately for him transforming the Devil isn’t enough…

Formulating a plan to merge the living world with the undead world, Calaca invades the town Pueblucho and kidnaps the daughter of El Presidente. Juan, a citizen of Pueblucho, is tasked with stopping Calaca from completing the necessary ritual at the Great Temple. Juan becomes a luchador and learns several abilities to aid him in his quest. Typical of other villains, Calaca relies on his evil allies to keep Juan from ruining his plans of world domination.  The fact that he becomes predictable and underestimates his enemy seals the fate of Calaca. Juan rescues El Presidente’s daughter and saves the day.

There are a couple of things we can learn from the actions of Calaca. Do not accept any deals the Devil offers you and never kidnap a woman who is the love interest of a famous luchador name Juan Aguacate. I always told my mom that video games could be fun and educational, maybe if she had listened I would’ve played more video games a kid.  I should say that while I’m not a fan of wrestling I enjoyed this game very much. Defeating Calaca with super punches, kicks, powerful headbutts, and a variety of wrestling moves was extremely fun. Thank you DrinkBox Studios for making a fantastic game.
