Tracking Numbers For ‘Suicide Squad’ Suggest A Huge $100M+ Domestic Opening Weekend

Jul 14, 2016

Suicide Squad interest seems to be through-the-roof at the moment as new estimates now suggest that the DC Comics film could open domestically in the $100-125M range.

Most aren’t exactly naming or comparing the early tracking numbers three weeks out, but Heroic Hollywood states it’s around 14%. This doesn’t sound like a lot, keep in mind that Guardians of The Galaxy had 10% before their $90M+ opening and this year’s Deadpool had 12% before it’s $140M+ opening weekend.

Then again, it’s been an iffy year for box office predictions the film could come in much lower than expected, like Batman v Superman and Captain America: Civil War did. Or, it could surpass and possibly reach as high as $150M, considering unlike Deadpool it’s PG-13 makes it a lot more accessible to younger viewers.

This could be a huge boost for Warner Bros. and their budding cinematic universe, after they got pommeled by critics and fans disappointed with the direction of Batman v Superman. Not to mention the bloated production budget, making it essential for the film to earn a billion worldwide to turn a major profit and it not meeting that target. Some even believe that the film could outpace BVS‘ final domestic total, which could be another win for the studio.

Squad‘s success could turn another leaf for the cinematic universe, that’s if reviews come back as positive, as early reactions might suggest this could happen. There’s already talk of a sequel possibly shooting soon and even a spinoff featuring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey.
