Collider is reporting that Drew Goddard is a “consultant” on Deadpool 2‘s script.
Screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are very much part of the sequel as confirmed by Ryan Reynolds as he commented on Collider’s report.
“Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are still very much writing the screenplay. They’re the heartbeat of the whole operation.”
Drew’s participation as a consultant gives the impression it’s only relegated to giving notes and a polish, not a complete page-one rewrite. An extensive page-one rewrite would mean a delay to production, by many months which is not the case currently.
The site goes on to reveal that The A-Team, The Grey, and Bad Boys For Life director Joe Carnahan has come on board to pen the highly anticipated X-Force film. He recently revealed he’ll be tackling The Raid remake starring Frank Grillo which will likely shoot after he completes Bad Boys For Life. This gives the impression he’s way too busy to direct.
Joe recently penned a script for an adaptation for Mark Millar’s Nemesis (at 20th Century Fox) along with a script for Shawn Levy’s Uncharted film. He’s not always directing the scripts he writes.
John Wick and Atomic Blonde director David Leich will direct Deadpool 2 which is poised to begin shooting this May in Vancouver. It’s possible he could be asked to direct both Deadpool 3 and X-Force, originally reported by THR as two separate projects.
And in a sign of how much faith it has in the Reynolds-starring franchise, Fox already is planning Deadpool 3, readying a filmmaker search for a storyline that will involve another X-team, X-Force, say sources.
While many are speculating the two films could be one and the same, but means Fox would be leaving many millions on the table. Nothing has pointed to this happening as it’s just fan assumptions.
The Hollywood Reporter had previously stated that David Leitch and Ghost In The Shell’s Rupert Sanders had been in the mix to direct X-Force before Leitch was given Deadpool 2 instead.
