In early April, we reported that FX Network and DNA Films (Dredd, Ex Machina, Annihilation) had hired Ronan Bennett (co-creator of Gunpowder) to write and possibly showrun the reboot of the 1980 mini-series Shogun.
Now, we have a production update as it is expected to start shooting this August in the United Kingdom.
An English navigator becomes both a player and pawn in the complex political games in feudal Japan.
The three principal roles in the series include British trader/adventurer John Blackthorne, feudal Lord Toranaga aiming to rule Japan with military might, and Lady Mariko, a Catholic convert who has conflicting loyalties between church and Japan.
It’s likely we will see Shogun begin airing sometime in 2019.
